Kindergarten math question. Can you solve this math question?
Hello, I’m jojo, a math teacher in Korea. I have brought a math question that I solved with a kindergarten student today.
This is a math question I used during a lesson with a 6-year-old child.
What is the price of the cola? Can you solve it?

I believe that a student studying mathematics should be able to solve it within approximately one minute.
Of course, it may take longer for a kindergarten student.
However, the student I taught was able to solve it quickly.
Let me provide the solution for you.
If we look at the third line, the burger and cola together cost $40.
{\color{blue} Burger + Cola = 40}
In the first line, the burger, fries, and cola cost $50. From this, we can deduce that the fries cost $10.
{\color{blue} Burger + Fries + Cola = 50}
{\color{red} Fries = 10 }
Now, let’s consider the second line to find out the price of coleslaw.
{\color{blue} Fries + Fries + Coleslaw = 30}
Since the fries were $10, the coleslaw is also $10.
{\color{red} Colesalw = 10}
Now we can determine the price of the cola.
Look at the last line.
{\color{blue} Cola + Coleslaw + Fries = 40}
Cola + Coleslaw + Fries = $40 Therefore, the price of the cola is $20.

Honestly, I don’t remember if I was able to solve such questions when I was 6 years old.
I’m not sure if children in other countries can solve these kinds of questions.
